Process
STEP 1:
First, what time period do we have to go back to bring a dinosaur to present day? According to the website below, there were three periods in which dinosaurs lived. They were called the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. Click here to look at what happened during each period and learn about some dinosaurs that lived during that period.
When you finish reading, try matching the dinosaurs to their time period by playing the game! Scroll over the dinosaurs to learn more about them!
STEP 2:
Now that you’ve learned a little bit about the different kinds of dinosaurs and when they lived, you need to pick which dinosaur you would like as a pet. Use this website to help you choose! You can first look at the ‘View Dinosaur Timeline’ Page and select a dinosaur that way, or you can click ‘View Dinosaur Type’ or ‘View Dinosaur Map’ and choose a dinosaur.
Print out this worksheet and complete PAGE 1. You will have to draw a picture of the dinosaur, write the type of dinosaur, and when and where it lived. Please include the years that it lived in as well as the time period (Triassic, Jurassic, or Cretaceous).
When you finish learning the basics about your dinosaur, make a cover page for your project! You can decorate however you want and use any materials the teacher has set aside! On the cover page, write the TYPE OF DINOSAUR you chose and of course your name! Also, if you have a dinosaur for a pet, it will need a name too, so include that on the cover as well! Remember, BE CREATIVE!
So you just picked the dinosaur that you want as a pet, but you don’t know much about it! Find your dinosaur on the website below, and learn some more! Using PAGE 2 of your worksheet, find out what your dinosaur eats! Let us know if your dinosaur is a carnivore, herbivore, or omnivore and something that your dinosaur likes to eat. Then, make a grocery list of food that you will need to buy at the store for you dinosaur.
Click here to learn about your dinosaur's diet!
STEP 3:
STEP 4:
Using that same website, see how tall your dinosaur was, and draw a picture of you and your dinosaur on PAGE 3 to show how little or how big he would be. Let us know if he is TALLER THAN, SHORTER THAN, or THE SAME SIZE AS you.
Do you think his size will make it easy or hard for you to take care of him? Explain why on PAGE 3.
Now that you have the basic information about your dinosaur, see if you can find any other fun facts using the websites below! On PAGE 4, list some fun facts about your dinosaur, and be sure to include some drawings or pictures!
Try these websites!
STEP 5:
STEP 6:
Now that you’re an expert on your dinosaur, you probably have realized how difficult it would be to keep it as a pet. The problem is though, that you already told an adult that you were bringing him home! Please write a letter to them explaining that you realize a dinosaur wouldn’t be a good pet. Make sure you tell them why it wouldn’t be a good pet so they can pass this information onto others that had the same idea as you! Write your letter on PAGE 5!
If you need help with the correct format for a letter, please click here! P.S. you don’t need to include your address in the header, just the date!
